I Went Speed Dating at Comic Con and Lived to Blog About It

Find an event in our frequently asked for single professionals. Three guys asked me to guess how old they were which I thought was a extremely idiotic. Then again that could probably happen at a non-nerd speed dating event too but seriously, why waste time? One guy told me that was a REALLY hard question then began rapidly listing off genres of films before I stopped him and told him to just tell me his favorite sci-fi movie.

First Contact for the record and yes, he was wearing a Starfleet uniform. I spoke with a lot of virgins at the event. Con virgins that is. That really surprised me. Only a few mentioned comics as being the main reason they were there and even fewer were as passionate about them as I am, which was disappointing. There was another thing that struck me as odd. I decided to bring it up briefly while talking about traveling with one of my dates. The majority of conversations I had were gone as soon as the next person sat down.

The "Geek Love" series on YouTube makes me assume con speed dating events are just filled with weirdos. I went to one of them at a local con, There were some odd people but the guy who got the most numbers in my particular session attended a fairly prestigious school and seemed like a normal enough guy when I talked to him the next day.

Sadly, Episode 1 of Geek Love on YouTube shows literally the worst possible experience for the girls but I did not see anything remotely close to that bad at my session.

They had so few female participants that they had to grab married women and girls with boyfriends to participate. Non stop rejection vs non stop disappointment. I can handle in small doses, but what's a speed dating session like? Maybe more at a conference? I almost want to go to a con with one of these to experience this.

I consider myself geeky, I just don't go to cons. I feel I would do well here, but I don't know if that's even worth saying. I want to try one, just to see how these are.

I really cannot think it will actually be good. As many cons as I go to, there are far to many people that are just a bit strange attending these.
