How does speed dating actually work

Why You Should Try Speed Dating

Tara, you are on fire tonight girl. I air-kissed my reflection. On the way, the taxi driver asked if I was going to a party. I lied and said, "Yes". I'm not sure why I didn't just tell him the truth:. Maybe I wasn't ready to convince a stranger of what I wasn't sure of myself. How did speed dating catch such an uncool stigma? When I told friends about this evening's entertainment, they had all laughed. I wasn't sure I believed her. I have grown tired of meeting the same type of guy, at the same type of bar and I was in the mood for something different. Plus the thought of free champagne and fifteen different men sounded promising; surely the odds were in my favour this evening.

I didn't know where to go and it was clear not everyone in the bar was here for the same reason as me. Hoping to appear both super sexy and cool, I ordered a gin and tonic and took a seat at the bar. I wanted to hiss at her to lower her voice, that she was embarrassing me by practically telling the whole world I was a lonely single. Instead I just smiled and quickly nodded.

I made my way upstairs. Laura, the wickedly cheeky and bubbly hostess, was there to meet each speed dater with a welcome glass of champagne and a smile.

Tell me, does Speed Dating actually work?

I had a feeling she may just be right. The atmosphere was not at all as I had imagined. There was a titillating buzz in the air, rather than the stuffy stench of quiet desperation, my friends had warned me about. Face down in food is always a sure way to avoid meeting people at an event that's primary focus was just that. When you hear the bell, that's your cue gentlemen to move onto your next date. Now, I will openly admit here that my evening leading up to this very moment had been fairly lubricated with alcohol and it is from this very point that I wish I could replay it differently.

Me - "Hi, I'm Tara. Him - "Hi, you have pizza sauce on your face.

Him - "You have food on your face, I thought I'd just tell you, otherwise you'd be embarrassed. I raced to the bathroom, washed my face, picked up another flute of champagne on the way back to my seat and finished it in one go. Me - "I'm a writer. Some of the men were outwardly awkward, but most of them were just plain dull. Now I want to go to another one and observe both sides! Just went with a friend to our first and possibly only speed dating event.

This article described our experience perfectly: Many of them were fairly recent immigrants with very thick accents lots of software engineers and computer programmers! Only a few could hold an engaging conversation. While in the bathroom, I overheard some women complaining about the event, how all the women were hot, and none of the men were even remotely dateable. Sadly, I think speed dating will be on its way out if the women who try it are only going to be one-time customers.

The reason good men are harder to attract to these events, at least to the ones where everyone is over 35 is because the good ones have mostly been taken. The divorced ones are in no mood to have the other half of their stuff taken and there are plenty of single never married women with which to meet, not to mention the scores of divorced women to choose from. Men are in higher demand as there are fewer of them.

I think your article is pretty close to the truth except the ones I went to did include there fair share of not so attractive women and fuglies. And I am a good looking tall guy too. Am I bitter — hell no. And if I had dated or God forbid knocked up or cohabited or married a women I would now to be dead.

The next date

Ok, what do you experienced speed daters think of this speed dating alternative?. I own a pretty cool mini golf course in downtown Chicago. In a popular park surrounded by the city. I want to do singles nights late in the evenings during the summer. It would work like this. There are 4 people per hole, 2 guys, 2 girls.

My first date

This suggests that a speed-dating context is one that generally attracts people pursuing long-term mating tactics (or at least report that they do!). Speed dating is a popular way to meet lots of other singles in one night. But does it work? It can, if you follow these tips.

Each hole takes 5 minutes to play. You play a hole with the new group, etc. With an adjustment halfway through, you and your wingman end up playing with 36 members of the opposite sex. So it is an easy way to make that first date. With a permit we may be able to add wine or beer to the event.

Yeah, mini golf can be cheesy but it is fun.
