I spent a lot of his 1L year in the car, train, or bus; traveling to see him. Used up all my vacation time, and called in sick many, many times. He claims that by his second year, he was certain he wanted to marry me.
We got engaged just weeks after he passed the bar and married two weeks after that. I think the time apart helped us a lot. I knew a girl in law school who was literally a crack-whore, she was addicted to cocaine and sold it to a lot of others at school and slept with at least 10 guys in school despite having a longtime bf who did not attend the school.
Towards the end of school when it became apparent that no one was getting jobs.. I hate to be cruel but most of the female law students at my school were not exactly easy on the eyes and I was never into slump breakers.
Thing 1 and Thing 2 These two are constantly together, and usually not as adorable as the Dr. Those Two are Dating?
Forever Together These two are not actually dating, but they might as well be a couple. Already Married Like Going the Distance, the married couple can take on many forms.
Half and Half This is a current law student dating a geographically nearby non law student. All the men just wanted to have sex with me without a comitment. FOOEY on men that just want to have sex and then walk away. You have plenty of time to date if you want to. I think dating other 1Ls tends to be a bad idea, that's a mistake certain people have to make for themselves.
At my school, most students come in with long term relationships. Of the ones who are dating, they tend to date other law students or use tinder. I think it's entirely possible to go to bars where undergrads and other professional school students hang out, but it's definitely an uphill battle. I think you're going to have a difficult time.
Also you're a spring chicken so don't worry so much. Law students are totally not insufferable nope not one bit.
I also find making time for things I enjoy such as hanging out with friends or working out help my stress levels. Reading cases takes far longer than I anticipated and it becomes a marathon of referencing the Law Dictionary or the FRCP every other second which can turn into a six-hour assignment. But then again, how will that be any different from undergrad?
Studying is the same. Exam stress is the same.
Just try to learn and get better everyday. I hardly know how to respond.
But I bet these horrors will get worse during Halloween. You got this far; you will keep going as long as you choose to. Especially since in New York there is so much competition.
Also…what if I get the flu during finals! These responses show just how diverse and complex each student at BLS truly is. Everyone has their own agenda and a different standard for what they consider difficult. Some seem to have it all together while others are still getting a hang of things.
That being said, the first year of law school is difficult but we are allotted moments joy during this time. The BLS Advocate is always looking for writers and editors. Get in touch at editorinchief blsadvocate.
