The connection is way too tight for the cartidge, and since it stands upright with no support, the cartidge is easily wobbled around, which of course ruins whatever gameplay you can get. I felt like I was ripping the cartidge to get it out! Sure enough, the intro screen came right up, but the colors were completely off. It pulsed pretty quickly. The picture was more pixelated than I remember it ever being, and this is on a small 30" tv. The colors were many, many shades off.

I did reset my TV settings, but was still hit with the same problem. I pulled out the cartridge and cleaned the contacts, still looked terrible and the screen shift continued.
The screen shift was so severe, it was unplayable. I pulled out my old SNES just to test it out and see what it would look like my NES has been dead for years and believe it or not the picture was better on my classic console than on the Retron!
The shift was very minor, barely noticeable during game play. I plan on returning this Retron device and sticking with my old console until it finally dies. Top rated Most recent Top rated. Picture is very good, had someone bring his real original super Nintendo over, sound was of equal quality, but mines picture was so much sharper due to S-Video, people plug these into HD TV's and wonder why there is scan lines, it actually looks worse on HD unless you get the Hyperkin Super HD which upscales it, and gets rid of scan lines but than your not getting the original picture.
I'm a stickler for using my flat tube TV for classic systems. All in all I give this 5 stars, my only complaint is the controller cables are too short, but they make up for that by using the original controller ports. If you order this one you will get the latest edition I got and will get the quality updates it comes with including better emulation and quality, so definitely order the shipped and sold by Amazon one so you get the newest revision because I have seen houw cheap some if the older models are and this is a huge improvement.

And it's supposed to be able to play all games, next game I'm getting is Japanese reproduction of street fighter Alpha 2. I was skeptical, but after trying to play my SNES the other day and receiving the sad blank screen, I ordered this and was surprised. I have spent the past couple days rocking some old games and loving it.
The controller is not as good as the original SNES one, but I just swapped out their budget one for mine. Besides this, the system works well. I am well on my way to fighting Apocalypse in the X-Men game. One person found this helpful. Connected it as soon as I got it and though slow going for a few minutes, trying to understand how to hook it up with my smart-tv, once I got it, I spent the better part of two hours playing.
Talk about a blast from the past, for those of us who grew up playing the original NES and SNES, I highly recommend you get this; especially if you have a few of your old games lying around. This was a great purchase. It appears to work fine so far but it seems to be made extremely cheap. I suspect it won't last long. The AV cable that it came with wasn't working, thankfully had a back-up at home. Also, the Nintendo insert is a little tricky. It's pretty spacious, so be careful when inserting your cartridges.
You sort of have to play with it to get the right fit for it to read the cartidge. Overall though, love being able to play the games I grew up with as a kid!

The controller included with the Retron 2 works well too. Some people have commented on the "cheap feel of the system. It plays the games. The Retron 2 is worth the money. The first unit I was sent stopped working NES port within minutes of receiving it. I went through the process of replacing it, and the second unit has been great. Although the NES port is a little tight and can be tricky setting the game in just right, it does work and I can play my old games with ease.
As for the SNES, it is a little snug on the port, but the eject button does work and the games play just fine. Overall it is a great idea and a pretty good system. I was surprised that this unit played both nes and snes games on an old analog TV as well as the original systems.
However, there are some issues with audio and video when the system is connected to a newer digital tv some games played fine while others had picture or audio issues. It's a hit and miss with newer TV's. The system feels pretty flimsy.

The power, audio and video, and controller cords all seem very thin and flimsy. But if you must play Chrono Trigger from the original cartridge, the RetroN 3 is a pretty great way to do it. Output is via S-video or composite AV, and input is via a pair of wireless game-pads. The box has six extra sockets so you can hook up two each of your original joypads for all three consoles. If that seems too awesome, it also packs its own wireless controllers.
