I don't play Warhammer personally, so, I don't really know how expensive it would be for him, but, I imagine that he'll enjoy the game itself more if he plays anything other than spaaaaace marines.

I usually liken it to starcraft or other RTS games. Most people I meet are at least cursorily familiar with those, and its not a bad analogue.

If model railroading is a thing, I know I would invest hundreds, if not thousands into it. I love trains and I always wanted to build like an entire track around my house with all sorts of environments and shit and have like a camera on it wirelessly projecting its feed to a computer which I could just switch to every so often. Say your playing the tabletop version of Starcraft or sci-fi Total War.

Most people have at least heard of those. Starcraft being the science fiction equivalent to Warcraft, which began development as a licensed Warhammer title. Your significant other probably won't know that though but chances are they've either heard of or played those titles before. I'm really lucky to have her in my life.

And if you are not into the lore and not into painting I would advise to look for a different hobby no offense no joke. Many people spent much more time with lore and painting then playing. Many don't want to play against plastic gray and paying others to paint isn't cheap either. It's also talking with others and feeling left out is not a good feeling.

But I bet if you were open and interested there would be people happily tell you everything and I mean everything until you beg them to stop. Ohhhh I know and I am much more interested in the lore of the universe than almost anything else, to be honest.

Nah, the painting part puts me off because I am absolutely hopeless as a painter. My mum paints really well, but I can find a way to make a painting look bad. Probably a case of actually finding the time to sit down and actually do it.

I always felt that it'd actually be super fun with kids cos you get to bond with them whilst doing something unique and different instead of just sitting there playing video games or something. Creating experiences is the most important part of life anyway, so, even if I don't actually buy any pieces, I would love to sit down and paint some models for someone else for free, of course, I am no Bob Ross or Van Gogh!

Painting pictures and painting miniatures is a great difference you have all the depths and heights on a model which help you painting. Also the Citadel paints do a lot of the work for you. Not sure if I had the patience to paint with kids without getting furious because they do it all wrong. But I totally agree with you.

Also video games can build experiences too it's just most a single player or played on different screens.

Also there are some really good painting tutorials even official ones on YouTube just try to do what they do and it look somewhere closely to what they did It is also a nice way of relaxing and doing something else I already work full time in front of a PC. These boxes bring you lore and models many models so many room to improve.

They also offer rules for an easy boardgame. Get one of them and the painting supplies. After you are halfway through you know if you want to continue or if you wasted that money don't underestimate how much paints and supplies cost you you can reuse them but you have to get them for even a single model. They are also a starting point in lore just go on from there where ever you want. Nearly everything is connected and you can advance in the story along those lines. A lot of the artwork for Games Workshop is very busy visually, and that makes a lot of sense because as a still, you have time to look at it, admire it and enjoy the details, but in a videogame that style would make a very noisy picture.

For us, the challenge has been to take the large-scale and what makes Games Workshop art great, and depict that in a way that works visually for a tactical game on a screen. And not too depressing! It grinds skulls, in the mouth of another, larger skull.
