Step 1 First turn off your booster pump and disconnect from the dedicated pressure cleaner line from pool port, then remove your cleaner from the pool. Step 2 Now to locate the Polaris Back Up Valve on the feeder hose, it should be within one hose length of the cleaner itself. Step 3 To remove the Polaris Back up Valve from the feeder hose and hose assembly, unscrew the plastic nuts on each side of the valve and slide the hose off the valve nozzle. Replacement Polaris Pool Cleaner part: Step 4 If you are simply replacing this part, at this point you would install the new valve by reattaching the nuts and hose to the valve nozzles.
If you are replacing the Polaris Valve Mechanism, please read on. Step 5 Disconnect the back up valve locking nut and separate the 2 pieces of the valve. Step 7 To extract the Polaris Valve Mechanism, simply grip and pull up. Step 8 Replacing the valve is just as simple, align the valve mechanism's water port with the valve port opening and slide the mechanism down into position.
Step 9 Now place the other end of the valve cover, being sure to line up the notch on the cover with the notch on the other end of the cover then slide down into position.
Before doing this step take time to inspect the valve top cover O-ring, to ensure that it is not warped or worn. Step 10 Finally tighten valve nut. Step 11 Reinstall valve back in line with the feed hose, by moisten the end of the hose with a solution of water and dish detergent and sliding it onto the Polaris Back Up valve's nozzle then tighten with valve nut.
Regarding this topic, it would be nice to add more tips in Step 3 and I have Polaris I spent more than 10 minutes to unscrew the plastic nuts from the backup value. Then I spent more than 20 minutes to screw back with a groove plier, but I still couldn't put it back completely. Putting a hose back was okay, but tightening with the plastic nuts with a bare hand and with the plier didn't work well.
My hand almost got a blister by forcing to tight the nuts. Please give Pentair a call at to see if they have something to correct this problem. But if the connecting ring is wearing out by dragging on the pool floor, I would shorten the connecting hose. Should I shorten the length of the hose connecting it to the cleaner ?
Never pick up the Polaris by the head float. • Always remove the WARNING: USE OF POLARIS IN A VINYL LINER POOL F. Hooking Up the Polaris. How to install a Polaris pressure-side pool cleaner, the most powerful type of cleaner for picking up medium to large debris.
Check to make sure the valve is not clogged with debris. I often find my cleaner stuck in the same place, and am wondering if there may be too much hose length. I'd guess it is 6'. I do see the backup valve working some times, but it's pretty gentle. The water from the Back UP Valve should only pulse intermittently.
Take the valve apart and clean out any debris in the gears. Check for cracks in the shell of the valve. Check that the gears move easily. Note that water may leak from some of the hose joints, but that is not a problem.
The Polaris works well although the cost of ownership is high compared to the Jandy Rayvac I had previously. The unit stays in the pool and operates about 5 hours a day. I had two of the Rayvac units from to , this is my second Polaris , which is replacing the unit I bought in I have rebuilt the unit twice and replaced a couple of the wheel bearings again as well as replaced the hose splits easily and swivels since its installation in , never had to replace hose components on the Rayvac.
The bag with the Velcro opening is difficult to get debris out of, I have been purchasing the bag with the zipper which seems easier to clean. I am happy with the Polaris and it works well. Also it is easy to see how much has been collected which could not be seen in the Rayvac.
I probably should have done more research as this rover is probably too small for my pool. I should have bought a larger model because the amount of tree clippings that I have this time of year are higher than normal and the bag is filling too quickly. That being said the rover works perfectly and was easy to install.
It came in 2 days which was faster than anticipated and was in great condition. When I bought my current house with an inground pool 15 years ago, the previous owner left the Polaris with me. At the time I had never owned a pool, let alone done any maintenance on one. At first I would hook it up and let it run for a couple of hours, remove it, and then do that again days later.
Well, being as i'm naturally lazy, that soon turned into just leaving it hooked up all the time.
I worried somewhat that this would wear it out quickly. What I found out, is yes, it will wear out the bag once per year, the hose assembly every other year, and the bearings about every 3 years.
For me, to do ZERO pool maintenance this is a small price to pay. For others, simply unhooking it when your done, will probably turn the cleaner maintenance in half I would estimate. At the beginning of the swim season, I pull the cover off the pool, hook up this cleaner and let it just go. The only thing I have to do, is after days of the initial running, is to go through and clean the walls above water level by hand. I never do anything else the rest of the season. I never even turn off the pump to clean the bag.
If you need any further assistance, please email your contact information to feedback zodiac. The Polaris easily connects to a dedicated pressure line and is suitable for all in-ground pools. The hose length was very easy to adjust; I simply removed a single section which made the overall length perfect for my pool size. A Polaris booster pump provides optimal power so your cleaner can pick up even the largest debris, while circulating clean, warm water throughout all areas of the pool. Just un-attach it while running, empty it, and re-attach it while still running. So I've owned it 15 years and it was used when I got it, so I'm not sure how old it really is. But obviously this thing has lasted a long time. As my original title says, the best value for the money of anything I have ever owned.
