As rock and roll became a revolutionary force that affected the culture of countries around the world, [] Dean acquired a mythic status that cemented his place as a rock and roll icon. In his book, The Origins of Cool in Postwar America , Joel Dinerstein describes how Dean and Marlon Brando eroticized the rebel archetype in film, [] and how Elvis Presley, following their lead, did the same in music.
